AC Repair

AC repair across Fort Worth and North Texas

When it gets hot in North Texas, a system that isn’t keeping up makes being indoors miserable. We repair every major brand, we quote before we work, and we’ve been doing it from the same family-owned shop since 1989.

If your air conditioning system isn’t functioning well, being indoors can be a terrible experience. The air conditioning pros at Lawrence Air Conditioning & Heat provide the repair and maintenance service you need to get your home back to a comfortable temperature — affordably, and with experienced, knowledgeable technicians who do this every day.

From older HVAC systems to the newest models, our technicians are trained to repair any type of A/C system. We repair and service every major brand. When a system is past saving and it’s time to replace it, we install American Standard — the one line we’ve trusted for decades.

Common AC repairs we handle

Refrigerant leaks

Refrigerant can leak through damaged lines in the system, resulting in less pressure during the cooling process. Our technicians detect the source of the leak, repair it, and recharge the system to make sure the proper amount of refrigerant is added.

Frozen coils

The unit’s condenser coils can freeze up and prevent cooling. This usually happens when filters are dirty or debris obstructs airflow from the outdoor unit — low refrigerant can also cause it. We diagnose the cause, de-ice the system, and fix what led to it rather than just thawing it out.

Blocked drain lines

The drain line and drip pan can become damaged or obstructed with algae, preventing moisture from draining. That shows up as high indoor humidity, or as damage to the unit. We clear or repair those components so condensation can exit the system properly again.

Try this before you call

Some cooling problems have a five-minute fix, and we’d rather tell you that than charge you for a visit. If your AC isn’t blowing cold air:

  1. Check the thermostat. If it doesn’t display, change the batteries (if it has them).
  2. If there’s still no display after changing the batteries, check the fuse box.
  3. If no fuses have blown or tripped, your thermostat may need to be replaced.
  4. If the thermostat is working but the AC isn’t, check your filter — if it’s dirty, replace it with the same size.
  5. If it still isn’t cooling properly, turn the thermostat to fan for 30–60 minutes, then back to auto. A dirty filter restricts airflow and can ice up the indoor coil, which stops cold air from blowing.
  6. If all else fails, call us for expert repair.

What a spring cooling tune-up covers

Most mid-summer breakdowns are preventable. Our seasonal tune-up is a 13-point check of the parts that actually fail:

  • Inspect air conditioner unit coils
  • Check A/C refrigerant level
  • Lubricate moving parts
  • Check amperage
  • Check air filter
  • Check temperature drop
  • Clean outdoor air conditioner coil
  • Check dual run capacitor
  • Return air integrity test
  • Condensate drain treatment
  • Flush condensate drains (if needed)
  • Check safety devices
  • Check electrical connections

See our maintenance plans if you’d rather have this handled on a schedule instead of remembering it each spring.

Questions homeowners ask

How can I tell if my AC is broken?

With the thermostat set to cool at a realistic temperature, the system should run until the home reaches that temperature, then cycle off within 30–45 minutes, if not sooner.

A useful test: put a thermometer at the return air grill (the one sucking air in, not blowing it out), leave it for 3–5 minutes and note the temperature. Then take the same thermometer to a few supply grills and compare. A healthy system shows a clear temperature drop between them.

One caveat — if the system has been off for a while and the house has climbed to 85°F or higher, setting the thermostat to 72°F will take several hours to catch up. That isn’t necessarily a fault.

Can I switch from R22 refrigerant to R410A?

No. Each refrigerant is designed to operate at a particular pressure, and the two have different properties — they are not interchangeable. The compressor and other components may be damaged if you change the refrigerant.

Do you repair every brand, or only the ones you sell?

We repair and service all major HVAC brands, whatever equipment you already own. American Standard is the brand we install when it’s time for a new system — but that has no bearing on whose equipment we’ll work on.
